Fullstack Academy Cyber Bootcamp’s curriculum—currently offered remotely—transforms cyber novices into sought-after cyber professionals in as few as 12 weeks. Through a combination of hands-on lab activities, engaging lectures, and peer collaboration, students graduate from the program ready for roles like Cybersecurity Analyst.

But what does the day-to-day look like during the bootcamp? Below, remote student Elizabeth Bonilla shares what an average day looks like as she studies at the full-time Fullstack Cyber Bootcamp.

The daily schedule below reflects the Monday to Friday full-time program. Fullstack also offers a 26-week part-time program.

What Does a Day in the Life of a Remote Cyber Student Look Like?

Elizabeth explains, “A typical day studying cybersecurity at Fullstack full-time online has been an intense journey. One has to keep in mind that when they sign up for this program, they are committing the majority of their time to learning about cybersecurity and succeeding in the program for the next several weeks.”

She outlines a typical class day below in her own words.

8:30am

• I wake up and have a cup of coffee or eat breakfast.
• I also review my notes and finish my work from the night before.

9:30am–1pm

• I attend the 9:30am review.
• I spend half of the morning listening to a lecture and then doing classwork with a classmate.

1pm–2:30pm

• Lunch is from 1pm to 2:30pm. On Thursdays, we have lunch with our Fellow and a group of classmates to catch up on the week. During this time, our Fellow will also answer any questions we may have.
• On most days, while eating my lunch, I also use this time to review the lecture we just had and go over anything I didn’t fully understand.

2:30pm–6pm

• From 2:30pm to 6pm, we have another lecture followed by more classwork/teamwork.

6pm–Bedtime

• When class is over, I’ll replicate exactly what was done in class that day to solidify my understanding of the topic. I’ll also do any pre-work that is required for the next day. I typically devote three or four more hours after class to studying.

She adds, “Most days consist of spending the majority of my time with classmates, instructors, and fellows. This is great because the whole day will center on class material and cybersecurity.”

Who Teaches Remote Fullstack Cyber Students?

According to Elizabeth, her Fullstack Cyber instructors have been key to helping her succeed. She says, “They all have shown me they are in this with me and they want me to succeed. I can reach out to anyone, and they will be more than happy to help me.”

Fullstack Cyber Bootcamp only selects instructors who are top-tier cyber experts with real-world professional experience solving cyber challenges. Two of these instructors are Veer Dedhia and Marc Capellupo.

Veer Dedhia

Along with being Fullstack’s Director of Academics, Veer is also one of the founding instructors for the Fullstack Cyber Bootcamp.

Before Fullstack, he worked on moving target cyber defenses at MIT Lincoln Labs, as a security engineer defending Google, and on developing software for security logging at Google.

His passion for education has led him to work with students of all ages, including leading field trips with underserved middle-schoolers and dressing up as the Cookie Monster to talk about web security.

Marc Capellupo

Marc has spent his career deploying complex, technical security solutions around the world. He now advises and architects SIEM solutions and security operations for Fortune 100 companies.

He holds a Master’s degree in cybersecurity, has been quoted by technology magazines, and is an author of a peer-reviewed publication on IoT security. He uses this experience to share knowledge with the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. Marc spends most of his time drumming out to the latest Tool song or marathoning another SyFy series.

Both Veer and Marc create engaging lectures and labs with live student participation. Additionally, they stay in contact with students outside of class hours through Slack or email. Marc says “If students need more focused time outside of class, we’re able to jump on a Zoom session for 20–30 mins at a time that works for the students.”

While our program is beginner-friendly, we’ve found that students with strong logical-reasoning and problem-solving abilities are more likely to thrive in our curriculum. Because of that, one factor in admissions decisions is a student’s score on our 30-minute assessment.

Video Interview

Once you’ve decided to submit an application to the Fullstack Cyber Bootcamp and have taken your assessment, the next step in the admissions process is to submit a pre-recorded video interview. In the video interview, our goal is to get a better sense of who you are as a person.

After completing your video interview, you can expect to receive an admissions decision within two to three business days.
